Shunkhlai LLC
Shunkhlai Group, with a 30-year history, operates more than 30 companies across 8 sectors, including production, trade, and technology. With over 10,000 domestic suppliers and partners and 7,500 full-time employees, we operate in all 21 provinces of Mongolia, contributing to the social and economic development of the country.
In 1990, Mongolia held its first democratic elections, leading to the adoption of a new constitution in 1992 and establishing Mongolia as a democratic nation where democracy and human rights are fully implemented. Since then, Mongolia has transitioned from a centrally planned economy to a market economy, allowing it to keep pace with developed countries worldwide. Alongside fundamental human rights and freedoms, such as freedom of speech, expression, religion, and travel abroad, the key principles of a market economy, including private property ownership and the liberation of the private sector, have naturally taken place.
Shunkhlai was among the first private sector cooperatives and companies to be established and registered in Mongolia. In 1993, Shunkhlai Group began its business activities by providing car warranty repair services. It has been a remarkable 30 years since that historic day. Shunkhlai LLC, which currently operates 99 gas stations in Ulaanbaatar and other areas, manages 8 petroleum product warehouses in major regions, a vehicle transport base for product delivery and distribution, and a state-accredited laboratory. The company entered the petroleum product wholesale business in 1996, joining a fiercely competitive retail market. APU Joint Stock Company, one of the oldest companies within the Shunkhlai Group, has been a cornerstone of Mongolia's food industry since 1924.
For nearly a century, APU JSC has continuously developed, leading its industry while operating in a manner that promotes societal welfare, environmental friendliness, and respect for human development.
The company manufactures over 450 types of liquid food products, not only meeting domestic demand but also exporting to countries such as Russia, China, Poland, South Korea, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, the USA, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Italy, and Switzerland. Skytel LLC and Media Group LLC operate in the communications and media sectors, holding 20 percent of the mobile communications market and 30 percent of the internet IPTV service market by 2022, making them leaders in media and content production.
Mongolia Motors Group is a prime example of Shunkhlai Group's investment in diverse sectors and expansion of its business scope. It continues the legacy of Shunkhlai’s initial car sales and warranty repair business. Today, the group includes the official distribution companies and repair centers for Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors of South Korea. Established in 2012, Sunttrans Logistics is an international transport and logistics company that has secured a strong position not only within the group but also in the domestic market, transporting about 30,000 tons of cargo per year.
GSB Capital stands out as a leader in the sector in terms of capital size and technology solutions, especially at a time when the internet and mobile technologies are rapidly being integrated into banking and financial services, intensifying market competition. With total assets of 179 billion MNT by 2022, GSB Capital is one of Shunkhlai Group's fastest-growing businesses.
In 2021, Digital Concept, the master franchise owner of the South Korean "GS25" chain store, was jointly established by Shunkhlai Holding Company from Mongolia, APU JSC, and GS Retail Company from South Korea. Currently, 250 branches of "GS25" convenience store are in operation, with plans to expand to 700 branches within four years. Digitization is one of the main factors determining the economic growth and competitiveness of countries. Shunkhlai Group plans to focus its investments on digital transition projects in the next development phase. "Zero Tech," considered the largest company in Mongolia in terms of capacity and the most advanced in technological solutions, will lead the project to develop and automate platform systems that connect customers and users, both within and outside the group. The company has built and put into operation its own data center.
